I have just been given a life-changing space: a sliver of glorious wiggle- room, relating to my physical pain: my body has won the soul lottery!
A simple prosthetic in my right shoe, means that after fifty-something years, my gait has been evened- out and straightened. It is the wish of my medical team to reduce my pain from 10/10 to 9/10, and it’s worked! I feel fantastic, and full of hope.
If my physical pain were to be likened to an unkempt weedy garden: now, at least the pathway to my front door has been cleared away.
I’m used to the spiky thorny plants, which darken the view, but I don’t care to give them my attention. I am thrilled with the glorious space on my new path, and I’ll still try to manage my pain through: gentle exercise, stretching, meditation and mindfulness…
Often in life, we can set unrealistic, and unattainable goals for ourselves. When we don’t meet our own expectations; it can have a negative affect on our mental wellbeing.
Instead, we should be looking for smaller chinks of improvements and possibility that align with our own personal circumstances. In the new space afforded to me; I am already making consistent, incremental changes: a few more reps in my stretching routine, and so on.
It is a waste of my precious energy to lament about a pain-free life. I’ve not known of one for years anyway. Besides, I’m still grateful that I can talk and walk, since many people with cerebral palsy can’t.
I’m far more interested in nurturing the newly- bestowed lessened space of pain, and the noticeable improvement in my mobility.
We can never expect the sun to solely shine on us: it has a world full of people and nature to share its warm rays with. We all feel blessed on a sunny day because ideal weather is rare.
Similarly, when new space is given to us, which makes our lives easier, we can learn to notice and utilise it.
When we are conscious about our blessings, and ignore the weeds in our garden, then we are growing and becoming improved versions of ourselves.
It is always the smaller things in life that are the most soul-nourishing, and they should never be disregarded, or over-looked. This is because they are your own personal fuel.
I hope this is helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
Emma x
