As a child, I was fascinated with the super bouncy power balls which could effortlessly spring six or more feet into the air. They came in neon colours: green, yellow, pink, which somehow seemed to accentuate their magical power.
Watching them spring so high up in the air with relatively little effort made me see them as a metaphor for human power. I figured that we’re all balls capable of bouncing high, it’s simply that some of us have more bounce than others.
And a ball is carefree: it’ll spring in any direction, land in bushes or a river, and like a healthy child, cares not about its surroundings or whether it gets caked in mud. It can be washed and ready for the next day’s adventure…
So how can we get the power or energy back into our weary souls? What can we learn from the power ball?
  • Adopt a more carefree outlook: think less, go with the flow
  • Enjoy the freedom of being outside – no more ruminating in a stuffy room
  • Be more adventuress and discover new places to walk
  • Be more daring: Do apply for that course or job – they can only say no
  • Try a pursuit that is out of your comfort zone: skateboarding, dancing, learn a new language…
Above all, care less about what people think. They don’t care if you’re a bit muddy, they are only interested in truth, kindness, and integrity.
Happy bouncing!
