If we believed the limitations bestowed on us when we were younger, then we’d have little room left for personal development. We’d never feel worthy or even deem it possible to reach our dreams! Many of us have been hindered by limiting beliefs, and it’s time to dispel yours.
I, for example, was not in the top set for English, even though I loved the subject! It annoyed me immensely, but I was powerless to do much about it. I’d not been noticed, not even for my passion for writing. I attained good grades in the subject, but for whatever reason, the school failed to promote me to the top set!
For many years I deemed myself useless at the subject, even though I’d been writing poems and short stories throughout my childhood. But my passion served me well and I was not ready to believe the limiting beliefs that had been given to me.
I made a point to write, whenever possible, daily. I kept dozens of notebooks to capture my creative ideas. I was not prepared to be forever in the “bottom set” for a subject which I love so much.
One day, I got a publishing deal for a couple of children’s books. It gave me a warm, content feeling to see my titles in the shops. I didn’t make great sales – it’s a competitive sector and I am not well-known. However, simply dispelling the limited beliefs of my school days has given me lasting energy.
Today I’m in the process of writing another book, an entirely different genre. Of course, I get writer’s block sometimes. Nonetheless, and it’s a lengthy piece of work, I’m half way through it, and I’ve already received good feedback.
Please do not believe any limiting beliefs which you may have been branded with. If you have a passion for something, dare to try it again. Apart from anything else, pursuing hobbies that you love is so important for your mental wellbeing! Good Luck!
