The phrase to smell the roses, is an idiomatic expression meaning the need to slow-down and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
I think this resonates with many of us, and sometimes we need to be reminded, that we live beyond the four walls of our homes. The restraints of our jobs, or the people we accommodate. When we’re feeling refreshed and rested, this is far outreaching, more than just our own wellbeing. The unfolding petals of us caress others, and the scent of mother nature, the bounce of our nourished spirits enticing and encouraging others to get outside. To emulate the timeless peace that only Mother Nature excels at bestowing.
A simple mosey into the great outdoors, even if you can’t walk far, then perhaps hop on a bus, or locate the first bit of earth grass or flower near to your home.
In the UK we are midst the carnival of colour, now in Spring, and the abundance of wildflowers decorate our hedgerows, whilst the birds provide a free, all invited orchestra of joyful music.
Just to pause at the wonderment of natural colour and scent. Have you ever counted all the hues of green around you? When we admire the trees, the palette from all the varying species, we note reds, yellows, not simply kiddie reference lime green. And the flowers, we have the vibrant Violets – that seem to be stitched into grass, and clusters of primroses worn on hilly banks, like hair bobbles. Very soon, the lilac of the blue bells, a precious celebratory carpet. We see the fluffy balls of buds, promising to become cherry flowers, and the splendor of the Magnolia tree flower – growing in reachable distance to breathe in its perfume.
When we take notice of our natural beauty, then our eyes wish to seek more. The surprise of the Rhododendron, often tucked behind other trees, oranges, reds, plush and happy.
Of course you may be time deficient, so many of us lead such hectic lifestyles. So, make a conscious effort to devote just fifteen minutes – if you’re busy and opt to eat your lunch outside.
Nature will hug you like no human can. It will revitalize you better than any caffeine and fill your soul with love and peace. Take some time out today – and go smell the roses. When you return to your schedule, you will notice that it has gifted you with clarity and a calmer clearer mind.
I hope you find this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
