When we are calm, we think with far more clarity, than when we’re distracted or feeling stressed.
We can accrue units of calmness through: eating well, exercising, meditating, and getting sufficient sleep. But that doesn’t guarantee a sense of clarity, unless we are consciously managing our human sensibility. Or putting our intellect in charge of our damaged, or wayward hindering emotions. See them as annoying tumble weed and maintain a Bish bosh attitude, when you feel them rising within you.
For those of us who have not known maternal nurturing, and especially if we endured frightening childhoods, we can so easily get distracted by the fuzz of historic fight or flight mode; we are more prone to falling back into a survivor’s head space of yesteryear.
Yet I have realised that it is the survivor’s mindset, that can help us in our real time. We must look at our old behavioral pattern, with revised perspective, and remind ourselves that it served us well. We were likely heavily managed and our free time was restricted. We therefore looked at the essential elements of existing- so tasks were carried out efficiently. We were on a continuous drive to stretch open the light in our dark existence, in search for clarity; and if we had not been passionate about growing our clarity, then we would not have made our own clear survival structure.
Example, my mother stopped cooking for us when I was eleven. We were disallowed to be in the kitchen for more than ten minutes, and we ate microwaved fish fingers or shop- bought floppy pies, both revolting cooked in this way. We were not permitted to talk to our long- suffering sweet grandmother either – who we all lived with. But, on the weekends, when she went out, I raided the fridge, stealing left over vegetables, and my sister and I could whip -up a nutritious vegetable soup in about twenty minutes. We had a drill, her helping to chop etc, fans on to disguise the smell.
So, against the storms though out my life, I have crucial experience and clarity on foundational necessities’ such as: good nutrition / cooking / time management. These, my personal units of clarity.
From there, I build and consistently remain mindful about opening all the dark spaces in my head.
Additionally, I have physical clarity because the cerebral palsy requires constant management- to stay mobile. I highly value my attitude about this – since exercising, and stretching shines new light within us. The perfect way to gather more units of clarity…
Focusing on a resourceful attitude, and to stimulate a sense of clarity, imagine you wake up tomorrow, and your home is cut off by a thick blanket of snow. Your house is in the middle of nowhere, and when you look out of your bedroom window, all you can see is a snow -laden path. You can, just about see the top of your garden shed by your front gate, and this is where you keep your shovel. You would not entertain clearing away all the snow in your garden – you simply want a little clearing on your path, so that you can gain access to the shovel, that you can then use to clear the way to your vehicle.
The poor weather condition, is forcing a heightened sense of clarity because the priority of getting access to your car, supersedes everything else
Try transposing this snow analogy, overlay it onto your foggy thoughts – as though it were a tailor’s template; and with practice you will be training your mind towards a heightened sense of clarity.
Lastly, aligning the mind body and soul truly is the key towards a life rich in clarity.
I hope you find this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
