At the core of all living things is a heartbeat, or the process of photosynthesis, enabling plants to live. Yet, to exist requires far more than a brain, food, water, or the ideal environment. There are unseen unquantifiable factors and a magical force: – when for example, we observe the determination of a flower smiling up at the sun. Its face poking through the impossible bed of a crack in the pavement. The plant is thriving because it is tapping into its elixir!
This intangible life force is within us all. You either have hidden rhinestones,’ or dusty gems in your psyche, that simply need discovering or re-connecting with: because they are your personalized fuel, or your elixir.
To help locate and utilize yours will require some reflection, yet it is easier to do than you may think. All you need to do, is go back as far as possible in your memory: jotting down any occasion that you have felt determined. Invest in a note book, and if you don’t have the time to cite every event in one sitting: keep it and a pen to the ready, so you can add as you recall.
I am lucky because I’m familiar with many of mine. It is the positive side of being an abuse survivor and being blessed with a great role model in my late father. My first of course is when I learned to walk, aged three; albeit that my determination was somewhat forced because I had picked -up on the frustrations of my mother, and the physiotherapist.
It was due to the harrowing childhood that many of my elixir moments remain vibrantly helpful conscious memories. As a kid, and a child-parent to my younger siblings, I had to do all manner of things to try to keep the equilibrium and us, safe. Necessity is, after all the mother of invention…
There is nothing constructive in detailing what happened to me. I have written about it in a book, and the ugliness is almost entirely out of my system now.
I am left with distilled experiences and wisdom, my elixir: as valuable as a fine wine. When I feel my energy deplete: I simply make friends with my authentic, and original determined self.
Once you familiarize yourselves with your most determined version of you, then I hope that you too can identify your elixir moments. Because they will support and drive you forward in the wilderness of the crazy world, in which we all reside.
Do not dismiss any of them – when we pan for gold, we collect tiny nuggets of it, gradually… and they will amass, and serve you well.
I hope you find this helpful.
