There are many factors that can make us feel physically, or emotionally unwell, or simply feeling over-whelmed by the challenges of life.

Pain in the body, mind or soul, can leave us feeling washed -out; but there are several quick-fixes, which only take minutes to do, that will make you feel instantly better. I don’t state so lightly, the cerebral palsy that I have, renders my body to be in permanent pain; but I feel fortunate to have these common resources which I’d like to share with you:

Breathing: Breathing regulation is akin to re-booting your computer; you will function with a clearer head if you invest in just a few minutes to do breathing exercises. Box breathing helps to reduce stress, improve your mood and regulates breathing. It can also help to lower blood pressure. You can do it anywhere, though it’s helpful to sit on a chair with your feet on the ground. Simply envisage a box, and on the first line, inhale through your nose to the count of five, whilst imaging your eyes travelling up the initial line of the box in your mind’s eye. Hold your breath for between 7-10 seconds, then exhale, repeat this four times, ‘til you’ve completed the box shape. Repeat this exercise a few times, and start making it your number one built-in and free resource. I’m proud to state that I rely on it daily because of its instant helpful results.

Stretching: Who would have known that by simply stretching your body and limbs that this too can make one feel instantly better. For two years now, I have been stretching daily, partly to help improve my mobility, and to stretch my wayward muscles. Whilst I have a set evening routine, a bit like a cat, I make a conscious effort to stretch throughout the day.  Either look online for some stretching exercises, or simply tune into your body, and gently stretch your limbs. You can literally feel yourself getting better from the very first stretch. Once you get into the habit of stretching daily, then I’d highly recommend that you advance into wall pilates. There are many free videos available on line

Fresh Produce: I cannot praise enough, how by eating fruit and vegetables helps make me feel instantly better. To me they are natures medicine: pineapple for example supports the immune system. Strawberries are full of anti-oxidants’ and can help reduce the risk of diabetes; and with every variety of fresh produce come a plethora of health benefits. If you’re not a fan of fruit or vegetables’ then try making them into a soup or smoothie, sprinkle with cheese, make a fruit salad, or add them to sauces…BUT and especially, if you’re not a natural produce fan: Take a few moments post the eating to observe, just that helpful little bit, how you feel instantly a tad better!

I would like to state, that I’ve only been consuming the recommended portions of fruits and vegetables for two years. It’s true to say that I like these foods anyway, but just that I guess I was a robotic eater, before my disability worsened. These days I can honestly declare that I feel so much better than I ever have before!

I hope you find this helpful.

SUNNY wishes,
