Meditation is much easier to learn then you may think. You can introduce yourselves to it from the comfort of your bed!

I first learned to meditate in bed, because I used to have the concentration skills of a gnat!

When I find that my mind is especially cluttered, I need to treat myself like a child: calm my woes gently, and be the nurturing mother I’ve not known.  I collect easy ways to mediate because doing so aids sleep.

One of my homemade methods is to picture the colour blue. Blue like the sea, is calming, and soothing. It feels strong and supportive. Interestingly, it’s a popular choice- colour of large corporates, because it emulates a sensation of assurance for their customers…

Simply lay on your back in bed, having stretched your body. It’s helpful to take in a few deep breaths: breathe in through your nostrils, hold to the count of four, then exhale through pursed lips- to the count of eight. Do so four times, whilst placing one hand on your tummy, the other over your heart. Next smile, and keeping your eyes closed; start picturing as many things as possible: that you can think of which are blue.

Initially, your mind may wander, mine does sometimes too. Don’t get frustrated, think of when a performer has a glitch: they compose and continue.

Because with this technique you have a built-in prompt to help you. It’s behind shut lids, and the colours your brain already “sees” when your eyes are closed.  Very often, for me, they begin as shades of orange and red.

All you’re doing is trying to over-ride your unique colours and swap them to blue instead. Try chanting the word blue, whilst keeping your hands in position, as an extra way to help.

You can even “cheat”, – if your mind is particularly restless. Get up and search for anything that is blue: toothbrush, slippers, jeans. Stare at the colour, get back into position, and start over.

What you are looking for initially, are tiny pinpricks of blue; it’s like watching lights twinkle on a Christmas tree. It’s incredibly relaxing observing any of your colour’s shapeshifting behind closed lids, as they reconfigure to blue. The more you think of the colour blue, the more of it you’ll see.

Think of yourself as a child searching for treasure that has already been hidden by a loving person. Because you will start collecting nuggets of blue, even after your first attempt.

The more you practice this, the easier it becomes, and it induces a wonderful, good night’s sleep.

I hope this is helpful.

SUNNY wishes,
