In a world full of distractions, we can easily lose sight of the most powerful versions of ourselves.
Hobbies and interests, let alone seeking out quality time, can completely evade us.
It can seem as though we’re stuck under a compost heap of challenges and problems. In so, we can forget the times when we felt focused and stronger.
If you feel like this, then I recommend you do what I did. I made the time to sit quietly and reflect. Don’t get me wrong, I had to repeat this several times, because outside influences distracted me: such as the unfounded guilty lurch in my stomach for not attending to the chores!
But I forced myself to sit in quiet contemplation, just for slots of ten minutes, – until, one day, my subconscious mind, met with my conscious self. I was trying to recall the first time in my life, that showed me the best version of myself.
I knew that by doing so, it’d help charge my soul, and my weary outlook. Moreover, I knew that it held the key in helping me in real time.
Eventually, I identified it, after several attempts. I even put a cushion on my lap, to help remind me to stay put on the sofa!
It was when I was three, midst learning how to walk. I recalled vividly the physiotherapist’s consulting room. I could see the clock, the red training ball, and her encouraging face. But I could also sense frustration, since the professional was trying to guide me by using my affected arm.
It was my fourth, or fifth visit, and being so young, I couldn’t verbalise that I wanted her to try guiding me on the side of my body that doesn’t have cerebral palsy.
I suppose I was trying to break her format, go against her training manual. It was because I knew innately- even then, how best to steady myself. I’d been practicing with our pet, very patient, dog.
I remember being determined to touch the red ball. I recall defiantly giving her my preferred choice of hand. I can still see her expression, when I took my first steps, and touched the ball…
These days, when I feel my energy deplete or my mood drop; I go back into the consulting room. I borrow my old self, and fuse it to current version of me.
However tough your life is, there have been times when you too have flourished as the best version of you. It means you can again!
It is extremely handy to spend some time reflecting on you. Keep sitting in quiet contemplation, until you too, can unearth your original selves.
I hope you find this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
