When we’re tangled up in our own problems, it’s all too easy to over-look feelings of gratitude. Or, why we are luckier than other people. So, checking-in with ourselves is important, because it reminds us about the life-securities that we take for granted; and it keeps us aware, and grounded about what we’re already incredibly blessed to have.
Here are my ten reasons why I’m lucky:
- I can talk – early prognosis of my disability suggested I’d not be able to.
- I can walk – the same prognosis suggested I’d not do so.
- I have readily available water at home. Three in ten people worldwide lack access to safe water.
- I have food in my fridge, sufficient clothing, a roof over my head, and a safe place to sleep. Seventy-five percent of the entire population don’t!
- I have a wonderful daughter with whom I’m lucky to be close to
- I have a number of longstanding old friends’ – my chosen family members
- I had one brilliant parent, and a great Step-father
- I was taught much from the above -mentioned people: things I still apply, and value regularly
- I have a kind, genuine, and loving partner
- I enjoy lots of hobbies: mother-nature / cooking / writing
By keeping consciously aware of the things we are fortunate to have; we evoke an instant sense of calmness, and relief. We must be mindful and call to mind, how incredibly lucky we are, and make a habit of doing so every day.
