Just like us humans, it’s important to thank our pets for everything that they do for us!

It’s such a fun form of mindfulness.

Of course, we animal lovers smother them with daily kisses and tell them we love them, but we can often overlook thanking them for all they do for us: unconditional love, a confidant, head of the exercise department, and so on.

What’s so heartwarming, is that they understand all our emotions already. Frequently my dog holds my gaze with such a knowing concern, that she often reminds me of relatives who are no longer with me. It literally warms every dot of me…

Method:

  • Grab yummy treat
  • Gather up a loved pet / or friend’s pet, and pop them onto your lap/sofa/bed
  • Ask them for their paw, or take paw in hand
  • Look straight into their pure adorable eyes

Enjoy a giggle, with the knowledge that on an innocent level, they are being “treat shallow”, and remind yourselves how much laughter and humour they bring every day with their endearing and mischievous antics.

Next, supply a treat, or you may need to delay for a moment or so, whilst you thank them for all the ways in which they enrich your life.

In my case, I thank Pixie for being the purpose and reason to get out into the beautiful countryside. I thank her for my improved fitness, and for the daily laughter, she provides with all her mischievous antics. Even though she is four now, she still loves to “steal” socks, and tea towels, and in so, she provides us with non-stop free entertainment.

We are so lucky to have our animal kingdom, and even if you can’t borrow a pet, then do enjoy getting outside because whether it be a bird, or squirrel–watching, you’ll soon discover that every animal has its own personality, and it’s extremely soul-nourishing to connect with them!
