A friend of mine has a particularly soothing voice, she almost whispers when she talks, so listening to her always evokes a sense of calmness.

It’s no wonder that she’s a brilliant social worker, plus she’s caring and kind, with a twinkly smile.

The lovely lady got me thinking one evening, we’d enjoyed a beautiful Sunday walking in the woods together. The serenity of the trees combined with the wonderment of nature, and her soft tones, was surely a feeling that could be replicated?

So I did, and I still find it an incredibly useful, and free tool to use, especially when I’m feeling stressed. Plus, you can do it wherever you are. All you have to do is Whisper.

I’m sure like many of you, I often talk to myself. I think we all do it actually because often narrating what you need to do: aloud, such as when you’re cooking, really helps.

I also do it, when I’m about to leave the house: “Keys /phone/ bag / check back door…”

BUT, and if I’m honest, then I’m also cursing under my breath too, I’m adding:

Oh crap, I don’t want to be late, but I need to check the back door again!”

Of course, I don’t really. I KNOW I locked it. (And I’ve already checked: twice!)

It’s the dam anxiety playing up, and it makes my heart race.

I need to get a grip…

But, that seldom happens nowadays. Actually, the whole tempo and vibe in my house, is getting calmer by the day. I was consciously aware of my triggers. So I made a little change.

And, this is because I swapped my self-narrative. I gave it a calm makeover!

It’s all airy and soft now, well most of the time, – because I whisper instead to myself… and it is SO helpful!

Go on, give it a try, and let me know how you get on.

All you need to do is whisper everything that you usually say: both aloud and inside your head.
