January is notorious for being a tough month, and it’s when our anxiety peaks, as we wait for our monthly wages, and it’s usually when the utility bill lands on our door-mat.
We get over-whelmed and cross with ourselves, for not adhering to all the New Year resolutions we’ve promised to make. But we’re still in “Superman mode” because it’s the start of a new year, and we’re trying to sustain our festive mood. We forget that we’re merely human, as we try to speed through and multitask the actions we have on our “To do” lists.
This is the perfect recipe for gripping guts and splitting headaches.
Anxious people, we need to stop multitasking, and instead favour the “one thing at a time” mode.
Create a timetable to help you plan and slot in all the tasks you need to do. Highlight the urgent things, and if need be, carry the less important tasks over to the following month.
Batch cook your meals to ensure you are eating healthily. Try to pick the same day each week that you allocate to doing this.
List the things you urgently need to achieve in a given day, and before you steam-roll ahead, ask yourself whether or not they really need to completion today.
Now, look at your activities, and slow down. Focus and do one task at a time.
Additionally, you could consider allocating a day per month to address bills and paperwork.
You could look at the journeys you need to make next month, and plan them now, especially where train travel, for example, can be far cheaper booked in advance.
Ultimately, it’s crucial for our healthy mental wellbeing, that we slow down and make informed calmer actions and decisions.
