It drills its screeds at me:
Diligently pulsating – bones outwards
It’s an ever present mass
So known, yet eludes description
Its monstrous whispers incessant
But the quiet is my respite
If it notices a trigger, it misses none, placards are beamed behind my sockets
Thankfully the duration quicker than the ever present moving film
The memories sting
The brute is quick to respond: it wants me to keep remembering
Then it tires of my mind. It wishes to lurk in the acid of my guts
There, it will coil and thrash; its friction my belches and burns.
Next, it festers in my nose. It wishes to tamper with sentiment: rid of the few comforting scents
It forgets nothing. Reminds me of association.
Finally, it means to confuse emotion. It’s entwined in heart and stomach
A slippery fast moving beast
It steals sensibility and crashes through security
It needs my brain scrabbled: it is the fodder it feeds from
No one can see my invisible demon. It likes anonymity
But I feel every sinew of it. It demands I forget nothing
On good days, I can stamp down on it, deplore at it for serenity
But it is determined and intense
It’s too familiar with me, so defiantly it squats within
I can’t make it relocate
But at least I know it’s there
I know the enemy
I will outwit it!
