With the huge increase of new COVID cases, coupled with the anguish over job loss and not being able to mix with our loved ones, our brains are overloaded with a plethora of anguish, fear and stress.
We need to find and utilise as many simple ways as we can to nourish our mental health.
Here are some ideas that could help you, day to day:
- Ensure you get at least seven hours sleep, even if you need to top up your quota with an afternoon nap
- Spend ten minutes daily stretching your limbs – I do this when I wake and before I sleep
- Find some relaxing music and play it regularly
- Practice breathing – box breathing is easy to fold into your day as frequently as you like
- Revert back to old comedy classics which make you giggle
- FaceTime a friend or family member, and do it daily
- Light scented candles daily, or invest in essential oils
- Read a book, or write a letter
- Eat as well as you can afford to – soups are inexpensive and nutritious
- Fold time in daily for your hobby
- Share your problems with a friend or a professional
- Get outside for a walk – even if it’s a daily walk around the block
- Play classical music, for your pets too! Ask Alexa to play “relaxing music for dogs”
The key is to do as many of the above on a regular, preferably daily, basis.
