Stamina is the ability to sustain prolonged physical or mental effort. It is the personalised energy that will help us grow as individuals as we embark on a new era of change, due to the pandemic. It is a lifestyle choice that I believe will help empower us.

If we compare ourselves to great sports people who adhere to strict daily training and eating regimes, then we could feel that such formidable lifestyles are unrealistic to emulate. Winning Olympic medals is a life time dream that only a handful of humans earn.
Yet, if we borrow some of our greatest athletes’ attitudes, and customise them to fit into our daily habits, we can improve our own stamina!

For example, during lockdown many of us want to take advantage of our rationed time outside. Since we should be exercising everyday anyway, there is an opportunity to increase our stamina simply through walking. Walk for longer, vary your speed and discover new places to explore, and keep a note of how long you’ve been exercising for. On your next walk, try going that bit further or try to complete your walk in less time than you have done before.

As you do this, you’ll feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment, and you’ll enjoy feeling fitter, too. You can adopt this idea to increase the agility of your mind as well. Try downloading some mind exercises – there are many available free of charge and you can try completing them quicker or ramping up the difficulty level as you go. I did this only a week ago and am enjoying pushing my brain whilst extending my vocabulary.

Improving your stamina is not just a pursuit for the elite – it’s a conscious shift in our minds which gives you the benefit of powerful self-satisfaction.
