Have you ever wondered why bad things that happened in your childhood, are hurting your life today?

When I saw the above quote, and only recently, it certainly grabbed my attention.

Anna Runkle of www.thecrappychildhoodfairy.com talks about new research on CPTSD (childhood post-traumatic stress disorder – carried out by Harvard University) and she says that, frequently, issues around mental health are not always a chemical imbalance and nor are they psychological. They can actually be a dysregulation of the brain functionality, and she details why certain types of therapy doesn’t always help victims of childhood trauma. However, she stresses that the negative effects of a traumatic childhood can be helped and that dysregulation can be reversed, which I found very encouraging.

I am not a Psychologist, simply an ordinary person trying to navigate around my challenging life. I wish to share this information with you as it’s already helping me hugely. There is much free advice on her website and also a course available for those of you who can afford it.

For me, having the knowledge that I may have dysregulation of brain functionality is extremely helpful. My late brother spent years being passed from “pillar to post” with mental health teams and never received a satisfactory diagnosis, which made him suffer greatly.

Perhaps now I can work towards reversing my CPTSD. I have found Anna’s research and insight both comforting and productive – I hope you feel like visiting Anna’s website and sharing this with people whom you feel may benefit from her support.
