I’m sure that many of us have heard this expression, and yet actually everyone cries sometimes.
Whilst there may be a social stigma around men releasing their emotions through tears, there certainly shouldn’t be.
It’s encouraging to occasionally read that “real” men cry – frankly, it’s no wonder. A glance at social media, watching and reading about how some humans treat one another and our animal kingdom, is enough to make us all weep! In fact, I was at a party recently and most people I spoke to are avoiding watching the news altogether at the moment.
We are, after all, fragile humans struggling with life’s demands and our mental health.
Those of us living in Great Britain are subjected daily to a timer on the news – the number of days counting down to Brexit on our screens. It doesn’t help anxiety and it does nothing for the uncertainty many of us feel about the future of our country. I call it the “Watership down” syndrome – we are like rabbits trying to guess our futures…
In short, there is a mass feeling of stress, and it’s been scientifically proven that when we cry it reduces our feelings of stress through the chemicals that are released in our bodies. So whether you shed a tear openly or in private, don’t refrain – it’ll help you feel better afterwards. Everyone cries at some point and we need to work together to break the stigma.
