I was thinking about a friend recently who’s doing a job that she doesn’t really like. The majority of the population are likely to be in the same position, and of course we all have bills and responsibilities to meet. However, in her spare time she loves to crochet handbags and paint – she’s given many away as gifts over the years. Her friends have frequently said that her creations are good enough to sell.

This led me to realise that, actually, she’s on the “B road”, and en route to following her dreams…
With the daily stresses and pressures of life, we can frequently become blinkered so that our internal maps become foggy and out of focus, and our paths to our dreams become hazy. If we adapt our method of thinking, many of us could discover that we too are in the process of following our true desires – though perhaps these take the B roads, while our day to day lives are streaming along the motorway. I’m sure that lots of you have talents which you squeeze into your hectic lifestyles.

When we’re doing the things we enjoy, it feels therapeutic, and time seems to fly when we’re in the midst of these pursuits. So, if we set regular time aside for our hobbies, not only would we improve our skills but we could unwittingly be building another revenue stream.
In the example of my friend, all she needs to do is make some varying stock and she would then be able to approach some of the many independent retailers in Brighton.

It may be cliché, but Rome really wasn’t built in a day. Try to remember this when you are next taking time to pursue the hobbies you love – perhaps you too could turn your hobbies and dreams into something more lucrative. And as many of our hobbies are closely linked to our hopes and dreams, remember that they are running along beside you and your day to day life, just on a less obvious, less hectic path.
