Some days are the worst. The absolute worst. There seems to be no light, no happiness, nothing to lift our spirits. In these darkest days, you have to remember that you are not on your own.

Often these days happen to be a Monday. Maybe after a school or work-free weekend, we set ourselves up for great expectations – following a peaceful Sunday. But then, the moment the alarm demands us, our anxiety peaks and the simplest of tasks or rational thinking seems to slip away from our control. If this happens to you try to remember some basic facts.

There are people who love you, and you are so important. And there are so many things to look forward to in your life – even though right now, it may be hard to realise that. However, below is a simple acronym to remind you of ways in which you can help yourself:

T – Talk to sometime, and if you can’t find anyone you trust, then consider making an appointment with your Doctor
A – Ask for help
L – Let yourself help yourself – find things that make you feel okay
K – Know that you are not on your own

Don’t try and force yourself to feel better – it has to be genuine. But DO try anything you can to help yourself. What makes the fog lift a little? What cheers you up, could it help you today? Spending time on your own can be helpful for you to sort out your thoughts in a quiet space – however, don’t isolate yourself.

Allow your close friends and family to support you and keep you company. And if you feel able to, try your best to speak to someone about how you feel. They may have some useful advice, or words of comfort. And remember, good days are coming as that’s the nature of life; good and bad days happen to us all.
