It’s a cliché, but clichés are clichés for a reason – they are usually true. There is a physical connection between a healthy body and a healthy mind. For example, exercise releases hormones which make you feel good. Eating well and exercising can make us feel proud of ourselves, too.

Eating a balanced diet and exercise keeps our bodies healthy. It is so important to stay healthy and fit, and the better we feel about ourselves, the better equipped we are to tackle our confused minds.

Exercise has long been known as a form of therapy for mental illness. The release of hormones caused by exercise gives a feeling of elation, and helps us to feel good about ourselves. Exercise is also beneficial as it gets you outside in the fresh air. Even just a casual walk outside can be excellent for clearing the mind. If you feel like playing team sports, then spending time with friends and family, whilst focusing on a game, can really help to improve your mood.

Keeping your body healthy helps to maintain a healthy mind. If you find a sport you love, keep it up! Watching how you improve and smashing personal goals is extremely rewarding. Set yourself a challenge – to run a little bit further, to improve your accuracy, to swim a little bit faster. Whatever your goals may be, however big or small, you can achieve them – and it is SO satisfying when you do!

Maintaining a healthy mind isn’t just about exercise – some people hate exercise! So find what works for you – find what you love, and keep it up regularly. A hobby is a form of therapy. Let it stimulate you, relax you, challenge you – and keep pushing yourself to be as best as you feel you can be.
