There have been a few people who have really been there for me through tough times. I really am grateful to those people for listening to me, guiding me, and keeping me as positive as can be.
I’ve realised, especially going through close family bereavements that it’s very challenging trying to support someone who is going through a difficult time. In reality, there’s nothing that can be said or done that can reverse time and change the situation. However, what I have realised, are the small things that perked me up during my times of sadness. For me, it was talking to my partner, spending time with my daughter who makes me laugh, and playing with my dog.
I’ve also realised how easy it is to snap at the people close to you when you’re feeling rubbish. All the anger and sadness inside can make us short-tempered, even when we don’t mean to be.
I feel very thankful to those around me who helped me through such deep sadness. And I want to stress how much better I felt when I surrounded myself with close family and friends. Even if I couldn’t speak or express how I truly felt, just spending time around people instead of isolating myself was a real help. And a massive victory.
