The foundation of personal development is self-discipline; and when we apply it, we realise that it helps combat anxiety and supports our mental health. We feel a higher sense of clarity, focus and self-worth.
I must be disciplined due to the cerebral palsy. I am extremely lucky that I can walk – but carrying extra weight further hinders my challenging mobility and annoying pain.
Six years ago, when my walking became more of a nuisance: I consciously ensured that I consume the recommended quota of fresh produce. I also started basic daily stretching…
But last Summer, a nasty event changed things. The details are not relevant, yet of course it changed many aspects of my life. For a while, the hard work orientating around self-discipline seemed irrelevant – as though more pressing matters were tugging for my attention.
Luckily, I realised, that I can only largely rely on number one. I certainly established who my true friends are. It occurred to me that I need to spread the self-discipline, to further strengthen mind, body, and soul. My own-built fortress against continuing turbulence.
I made a concerted effort to rid of all vices in my life; I can’t really drink anyway, it hampers the disability. Although I haven’t rid sugar from my diet, I ration and measure how much I consume. I swap builders tea for fruit and green teas – because factually refined sugars do nothing helpful to the human body.
Additionally, I have spread the self-discipline to sleep hygiene and ensure that I get sufficient shuteye. I read and write daily and do logic problems, well-known to be good in keeping the grey matter sharp.
I have a long way to go, before my life is harmonious, and many obstacles to get through. But I can honestly state that by being aware of all my idiosyncrasies – and my goals, that the more I spread my self-discipline, the stronger I become.
We humans are so fortunate to inhabit our wonderful planet, and whilst we cannot control, or change harrowing world events; we can and owe it to number one, to become the best version of ourselves. This way we can at least grow wisdom in the enviable race that we all belong to.
I hope you find this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
