Finding the motivation to do something, can for all of us, at times, be challenging… we kind of need to look for it, – as though it were a physical object. Like we might search for coins on the street, or a missing locker key. We have to make the effort, and remind ourselves that we’ll feel happier with ourselves if we do.
If we feel that we’ve had a bout of feeling unmotivated, then naturally it will feel like climbing a mountain. In this mindset, we become vulnerable to unhelpful, negative self-narrative. We forget that we can simply take one step at a time; and this is a useful attitude to take, – as opposed to growing so mean about ourselves that: we fall into an unmotivated slump.
But if we make a list of the things we’d like to be motivated about: we’ll notice that some of them feel easier to achieve than others. For example, it might be that you’d like to start consuming an improved quantity of wholesome foods. In this category, of course are fruits and vegetables’, those in season, or frozen varieties are cheaper on the pocket. We can liken addressing this strand of motivation to actual low-hanging fruit on a tree. If we think back to when we were kids: human nature is to pluck the easiest to reach cherries on a tree first before balancing on a friend’s shoulders.
In fact, if we cast our minds back to when we were children, we were far zingier and motivated. Perhaps you could do a spot of reminiscing, recall your younger self, and siphon-off that energy and apply it in your real-time now. This method is helpful for me, and it’s an enjoyable thing to do.
Equally, it helps if we mix with people, who are motivated, or animals – because all living forms of energies are contagious. Or, if you don’t know anyone first-hand, enjoy browsing through autobiographies of those people you admire since their vibes will rub-off on you. You could achieve the same soul-tonic by watching aspirational documentaries or films. If it feels soul- nourishing to you, then it is not a waste of time: it’s personal self-care, since you are gathering the components to help you feel more motivated.
Inspirational quotes are spirit- lifters too. I read lots of them online, and they only take moments to do.
Actually, just this week a gentleman by the name of Peter, who enjoys martial arts said that he adopts the attitude of: “I’m able to do this” to keep him motivated, which is a great way to help keep him on track. Another was as along the lines of: “Motivation is something we have to do daily, like taking a bath or shower”. This quote is fine for those of us who condition ourselves to be motivated, but in my opinion, – might be too harsh for novice or previously more motivated versions of ourselves. Remember, if this feels like you, then in order to set your mind up, start with the easier aspects of your life first: Picture yourself reaching those easier to grab low hanging lush sweet fruits first, and then hoke out a ladder!
One gentle step at a time.
I hope this helps.
SUNNY wishes,
