As a lifelong fan of Snoopy, I like the common tag line on the cartoons: “Happiness is…”
Because it always cites the simple pleasures of life: my dog, or – head in my book.
It makes us think about other things which make us happy; and in our challenging era, reminding ourselves of life’s simple pleasures, truly nourishes our souls.
We can search for nuggets and moments of happiness, as we go about our busy lives: look for them, like lucky pennies on the pavement. Create some too! Here are some of those, that I actively bring into my daily sense of awareness, or consciousness. It’s handy to switch your mind to one, before you get out of bed in the morning:
- Happiness is thinking about my daughter. I am so blessed to have such a perfect one: kind and genuine. She is my awakening thought, an instant inside smile.
- Happiness is a rainy day. Since we can’t control the weather, if it’s raining, then it’s a chance to wear a favourite woolly. Or an opportunity to read a book/watch the television.
- Happiness is the absence of a queue at the supermarket. These days, not only has our food bill gone up, – so has the time waiting in a queue: expect one, and when there isn’t turn that into a nugget of happiness. Enjoy smiling at your valuable time being saved.
- Happiness is no junk mail. We all get heaps of it: through the letterbox and online. On days when none appears, feel the joy!
- Happiness is a sales call free day. On the days that you’re not interrupted by poorly scripted sales calls, feel the relief.
- Happiness is chatting to friends. Nothing beats chatting to your oldest friends. Try to find the time to do so often. It’s also when your busy friends message you back quickly.
- Happiness is laughter. How ever hard your day might be, try to find time for laughter. Even though your mood may be low, if you can’t laugh, then evoke a natural tummy- smile: look for a wild bird, pop yourself in his place for a moment. (Effortless mindfulness). Try to marvel at his resilience, or cute antics!
- Happiness is freezer treasure. Most of us are making cutbacks in our grocery choices. So, when you find a hidden bag of frozen prawns, be grateful and a little smug is okay too, – in the moment.
- Happiness is free time. I don’t have much of it, so when I get some, I take full advantage: read, rest, bath.
- Happiness is a calm head. Write down the things that help calm your mind, so that you can pull them out at the end of each day.
I hope you’ve found this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
