Although I’m conscientious and like working in a structured manner; because I’m only human, I can drop the ball of self-direction.
We all get sidetracked and for our own unique reasons. For instance, due to the cerebral palsy, physical pain can threaten to steal my attention. I’m forever needing to stretch and wiggle away pain, or deal with contorting limbs. This is when I take my eyes off the need to self-direct my day.
But like all of you, there are several things that require my attention. I have burning desires that require maximum focus. Interestingly, pursuits we are passionate about; I find ease physical pain and greatly support our mental health.
I am always interested in learning and improving my wellness. With this mindset I am continuously on the search for little tweaks that support a life of fluidity.
Recently, I remembered how teachers conduct their pupils. Funnily enough, my brother is a teacher; he is utterly devoted to the children he teaches online. He is extremely personable, kind and he thoroughly loves teaching them; often using humour to help lessons be assimilated.
Such a simple technique, yet isn’t it always the case, that the easy lifestyle hacks can be the most effective? It’s the use of the word: “right”.
All you need to do – when you find your attention wandering, is to say aloud “Right”; it’s like having a teacher, or mind manager in the same room as you, and it works a treat. It’s especially useful, if you follow-up, with a clap-of-your-hands, bouncing your cupped palms a moment or two. If speaks to your conscious mind – “I’ve got this”.
Additionally, you will likely find that it evokes a smile, which is a little reward from your subconscious mind. It is saying thank you for keeping me directed. And your subconscious mind is very kind, when you manage it well. It’ll also give you an energy boost.
I hope you find this helpful.
SUNNY wishes,
