Most of us are living on a budget, or frugally. Times are challenging, and the cost of all aspects of living never seems to stop rising! Frugality is a necessity for many, if we’re to make ends meet – to enjoy the occasional treat. But we must not feel shamed about living a thrifty lifestyle; moreover, we can feel proud, for all the daily tweaks we are making to keep us afloat.
Whether you are: rationing your quota of expensive confectionery, making soups from leftovers. Or saving-up for a weekend away. All these modifications heighten levels of appreciation, humility, and respect; for those you deem worse off than you. They equate to lifting you up a few rungs of your personal wellness journey ladder; because you are growing wise. You are far more appreciative for what you have. More conscious, than you were before, about reducing waste. You are growing in wisdom, shape-shifting your soul and updating your value system.
You have likely reflected about things you used to take for granted, yet realise now, that it’s no great shakes – to go without them. You may be feeling smug, since you’ve learned new skills, you are shrewd since you have learned how to make your own tasty treats. Or become savvy about thrift stores, on and offline. You are further reducing your carbon foot print.
Why have excessive clothing or shoes, when you can sell, or swap them online. You can take old bedding to homeless charities, animal rescue centres. And every time we think or help others, we grow more at one with others, and ourselves.
I enjoy living frugally, and I’m lucky that I remember many of the ways that my late grandmother lived a resourceful lifestyle: Foraging for berries – delightful jams. Mending clothes and darning socks. Blanching vegetables for the freezer, not the bin. Cutting the tops of tubes of hand creams and toothpastes- always lashings more product. Even wash dry, and lightly bake old egg shells – grind them up for a nutritious calcium supplement.
Frugality is not just a necessity: it is a wholesome way to live. The humbler the brain the happier the soul… And every penny saved -up seems more valuable. Living this way helps reduce rash decisions.
I hope you find this helpful.
