When did you last dance, or bellow your lungs out to your favourite tunes?

If you asked me, my answer is last night. I move and sing every evening in my make-shift discotheque. My kitchen, like all the rooms in my home, got repurposed during the lockdown. My lounge became an overseas retreat. I got candles and scents which evoked a feeling of being on holiday. I guess that I’m blessed to have a good imagination.

I am lucky because I have a fair-sized kitchen. But even if I didn’t, then I’d always find a spot to groove and stretch in.

Jigging about and singing along to the music we love, is a great way to discharge pent-up feelings. And the choice of genres is entirely up to you.

It’s a fun free workout that helps us feel energised, and a great way to re-set our frame of mind.

I’m not a dancer, but that doesn’t stop me, and I sound like a cat when I’m singing!

I move like a robot, I have cerebral palsy. I am in permanent pain, and I am so grateful to be able to walk and talk. As a baby, my parents were told that I’d likely be unable to do either.

Yet music helps to ease my pains. It has a multitude of purposes.

If for instance, I wish to feel empowered, I’ll pop on Atomic by Blondie. I love Blondie, so loads of their tracks work well for me. 11:59, also by the group, evokes feelings of determination, or an: “I’ve got this” mindset.

If I’m feeling frustrated, then I pick Paranoid, by Black Sabbath. It still fascinates me that heavy metal music brings about feelings of pure satisfaction.

For when I wish to tune into my creative channels, I find Bowie and Kate Bush extremely inspirational and soul-nourishing.

All music has its place, even classical. Mozart is reputedly good for the developing brain, so I often played it in my child’s bedroom.  I like Chopin too, it makes me feel calm. Chopin is like combing my mind and is great to help with problem-solving.

Of course, most of us love music, it is the lifeblood of humans. It connects the mind soul and body. It helps make us feel in harmony with one another. It unites crowds in an arena, and its importance should never be forgotten.

I hope reading this, makes you feel like playing some of your favourite sounds later.
