The more you believe, the more you achieve!

A little bit of thinking and then…

The possibilities start buzzing around in our minds. They evoke pleasant skipping feelings in our tummies.  We feel like jumping on the spot, dancing with thrill. Those feelings equate to handy units of energy – which help lift our moods! And then you enter the ‘thinking more constructively’ version of you. You move with purpose…

If you feel that you have no one to chat with about your hopes and dreams – then read about well-known people, who you admire and who inspire you.

(Build on getting yourself stronger, tiny manageable steps at a time. Don’t waste your energy comparing yourself to others. There simply is no point – it’s you that counts!)

Find out about how celebrities you like achieved their hopes. Some of them, like Lady Gaga or Davina McColl for example, have had incredible childhoods…

But, they don’t have to be famous at all. You might want to be a plumber for instance, and there’s a great chance to earn a good wage. You could get to know about a reputable one where you live. If you ask them if you can to be an apprentice with them, after the “no’s”, you will strike lucky and get a YES!  It’s the same format for anything you want to do. It’s about putting out well thought-out feelers… you could meet new people, some you may wish to become friends with too.

And try to revisit to this site – see who else has added their thoughts on our: who page… could they help you to ignite a dream?

Or do you fancy scrolling down to read some short stories from inspiring ordinary people…

I hope they help to lift you… even for a few minutes!

The boy with green hair:

I recall Peter telling me that he used to be worried about his shy geeky son. One of his angsts, he knew, was that he had a fragile soul. He also had a shock of lime green hair. Additionally the talented 14 year old suffered from acne.

Somehow, the brave young guy plucked up the courage to convince Nickelodeon to see him…

As his father waited on a park bench in London, he felt apprehensive. But he knew that his son was brilliant at sketching cartoons. He’d been reminding his son about the pride he felt, throughout the entire train journey up…

The teenager approached his anxious father. Nickelodeon had offered him immediate work experience!

So, in spite of all the negative things the boy thought about himself – he’d reaped the reward by daring to make new connections…

Baldev Duggal:

I am saddened that I didn’t meet the incredible man with the biggest heart. The magical late entrepreneur was a close friend of my late father’s. He founded Duggal Imaging Solutions. They are based in New York and world famous. Most of the huge posters on buildings you see – many memorable cool ones – have been created here….

The virtually penniless teenager had taken his chances. Alone on a boat from India, and driven by wonderment. He wanted to be a photographer. He loved technology, and arrived in New York.

Just the brave young man, with an old fashioned “Brownie Camera” and not much else. For weeks he treaded the pavements doing jobs for little payment.

But he soldered on. And then, by utter chance he got asked to help cover a story. A local paper had a big story to cover: Marilyn Monroe was singing at a large well known venue.

Disappointed, Baldev was ordered to cover an exit. The dusty one which barely got used. He was wedged between a pillar and the awkward design of the walls and couldn’t see the stage very well.

He sensed the wary vibes from the well-seasoned photographers. He kept hopeful.

And then the unexpected happened. He was agile and small. He heard the click of metal and the scurry of footsteps. It was his jealous colleagues, but they were too slow.

The blonde bombshell wafted casually past him. He captured a stunning close up of her winking straight at the lens with puckered lips!

The next morning, the newspaper gave him a useful pay check!

Baldev never stopped giving and he never stopped dreaming. He also told me that he was worried about the children in a particularly challenging borough of New York. He was concerned that they might forget their dreams. He worried about the negative affect all the violence they saw must have on them. He gave every child a camera and told them to “Take pictures of your dreams!”

Marjorie Fraser:

Marjorie was a fabulous Londoner. She was an “Eastender” and did my late father’s book-keeping. The character with the same name in my story is based on her. She was full of laughter and adored wearing garish make up. She was in her late seventies when I first met her. Her bright red hair always makes me smile when I think about her. She was forgetful, and sometimes put garlic in cake. She was driven by her extensive charity work and much about the harvest supper event in the story is true.

The larger than life adorable character had every reason to fall. Both her adult sons lay in graves in the gardens of the rural church her house backed on to…

And she also looked after Walter. Her kindly gardener had no family. She cooked his meals every day and drove him back the mile or so to his house.

When she was over eighty years old she started her own knitting business.

Adam Lawrence:

My life began to unfold around 2016. I was a new dad to twins and it all started unraveling when I started suffering from insomnia. Life wasn’t how I imagined it to be as a new family and things were really bad at home on all levels. I took a visit to doctors who prescribed me all sorts of tablets for anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and over the following few years, the medication became more and more – things continued to get worse, so I started self-medicating on alcohol just to get some sleep.
My life fell apart pretty damn quick from this point.
By 2017 I had lost my job, split up with my children’s mother, and had to move back in with my parents. Things continued to get worse and my access to twins was getting less and less – by 2018 I was drinking pretty much every day.
At the end of 2018, I met my current partner, but by then I had lost complete access of my kids and was giving up on life. By the summer of 2019, I was suicidal, I was drinking from the moment I woke up to the minute I passed out at night. Every day I was waking up with the choice of shall I kill myself today or try to drink myself to death. Any help I was offered, I wasn’t interested. I was on a one-man mission to hurt myself – I had given up.
I nearly did drink myself to death in Sept 2019. My skin turned green and had a seizure (I don’t remember). I came around in hospital 3 weeks later to be told I had nearly died from liver failure. I had lost the use of all my bodily functions and couldn’t walk. I was told it would take 12-18 months for me to recover and that I was lucky to be alive.
The hospital staff were amazing, they saved my life. I left the hospital after about 6 weeks after progressing really well with my walking etc – on about the second week of being at home and feeling sorry myself, I didn’t know at the time, but I had a spiritual awakening that completely changed my mindset and attitude towards life. I had a new sense of gratitude for just existing – I had a glimpse of the mind beyond the ego and there was nothing but peace. It left me wanting to learn more about the mind and I had an urge to learn about meditation and mindfulness.
I began practicing yoga and within 3 months I was pretty much walking back to normal, the doctors were amazed. Since then, I have been on a journey to better myself as a man and a father. I now have regular access to my kids, have a great family, I practice yoga, mindfulness, meditation, etc, and a load of other habits and practices that keeps me happy on my journey. It all hasn’t been plain sailing though, I relapsed for 5 days in August 2020 after being diagnosed with PTSD – which was triggered after not seeing my kids for 7 weeks during the first lockdown.
At this moment, life is good and I’m the healthiest and fittest I have ever been – I have also started my own online business www.lawrence-wellness.com and https://www.facebook.com/Lawrence.Wellness, where I help people who are struggling with their mental health with the knowledge that I have gained over the past few years since turning my life around. I’m am also starting my own Spiritual Life Coaching business in 2022, which will mainly be revolved around Mindfulness, Meditation, Shadow Work, and other Spiritual practices.
Why am I sharing this? Not for attention, but to speak out as a man, because many don’t. And also, to show, no matter how far you have hit rock bottom, you can always turn it around.
I don’t regret what I went through, because it made me the person I am today, but I do regret the hurt that I caused to people close to me.
I was one of those people that didn’t talk, bottled it all up and it nearly cost me life, don’t be one of those people.
